Paws for thought

Ruaridh's paws sticking out from under a chair. He's been for a vet check yesterday and weighed in at 13.4 Kg ... it won't be long until he doesn't fit under this chair anymore. Ruaridh is a German Shepherd ( Schäferhund ) a.k.a Alsatian.

Despite the wolf-like looks, this is a fairly modern breed, dating from 1899 when Rittmeister Max von Stephanitz got Hektor (whom he renamed Horand von Grafrath ) father of the line.

( My Jack Russell Terriers are leaping up and down pointing out that their breed history goes back even further than the GSDs :-) ).
