Mother Ludlam

Today I had to pick the poodles up from the kennel and, having been assured by BBC Breakfast that the day was going to be glorious, I decided to walk the six miles back.

I saw lots of things and took lots of photographs but the one place I always love visiting when I do this walk is Mother Ludlam's Cave. She is also called the White Witch of Waverley.

Apparently, she was a woman who lived in a cave and had lots of kitchen implements. She would loan them out to anyone who needed them but, one day, something was not returned. So she stopped lending out things. That's it.

Anyway, her cave was a big tourist destination during the Victorian era but these days it has a big iron gate and a sign which says it's dangerous. The fact that there's a natural spring flowing out of it creating an awful lot of mud at her entrance, makes it a little less than appealing anyway.
