Too cold for daffodils

It is St David's (the patron saint of Wales) day today.

Two national symbols can be worn on this holiday: the daffodil or the leek. The usual default choice as you can imagine would be the daffodil, but I have been unable to find a single daffodil in a Calgary flower shop all weekend. So here is strange view of a leek.

St David was a bit of an ascetic is seems: he ate herbs and vegetables and drank only water. He gained recognition in the church for his thwarting of the Pelagian heresy.. (!!??!?).. although it has to be said that Pelagius sounds a bit more like the kind of guest you would invite to a dinner party. St David's day is not associated with great celebrations: I wonder what a Pelagius' day would have been like.
