Diamonds and Rust

Flowerpot men

We had our chimneys swept today for the first time in years. We don't use the fireplaces but lots of debris comes down frequently, and the jackdaws regulary attempt to nest in them. I was persuaded by the sweep that upturned flower pots would be just as good as proper ventilation cowls and lots cheaper. But I'm not so sure now - they don't look too stable, though the sweep assured me they were. Time (and high winds) will tell. I'm hopeless at dealing with these sort of things, having no interest or expertise in building, DIY, anything like that.

Later on I had a frustrating time trying to establish who was responsible for land drainage consents. Environment Agency told me they weren't and the county cuncil were. When FINALLY got through to Ceredigion (they rarely seem to answer the phone) nobody there seemed to know anything about it either. They told me to ask the Farmers Unions. Hopeless.

Ah well, I March, St. David's Day, and a beautiful sunny day it was. I'd better get cracking on some gardening soon.
