A Calabi-Yau manifold, or a water feature at B&Q?

This small jet of water, lit from below and photographed from above, reminded me of diagrams in books about higher dimensions in superstring theory.

These Calabi-Yau spaces may be topological descriptions of those dimensions aside from those we are familiar with, curled-up on such a small scale that an atom would be like a solar system in size.
