A fisherman leaves St. Ives harbour to lay his lobster pots. As he left I heard one of his colleagues on the quayside shout to him that there was nothing out there to be caught at the moment.
I had to chuckle because, just a couple of days earlier, I was walking nearby and a lobster pot, which had obviously broken loose in the winds, had washed up on the beach. I spotted a small group of people huddled around it and appearing very pleased with themselves because, inside the pot, they'd found a live lobster. It was quickly decanted into a Tesco bag and they made a hasty exit from the beach - presumably towards their holiday cottage in order to dig out the biggest saucepan they could find.
