The inscription comes from a poem by Alfred Tennyson who was the Poet Laureate for the UK

This marble monument adorns the entrance hallway to my apartment which is a converted school build over 120 years ago. I look around Edinburgh at all the newly built flats and wonder whether people will be living in them in 120 years................
